Amount collected:
As you know the Netherlands-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping those in need. We have outlined a clear strategy in this respect to substantially support a few institutions over a period of at least 3 years. Based on members’ suggestions and support, one of the institutions we have selected is the Heim Pál Children’s Hospital (Department of Toxicology). Last year the Chamber, in cooperation with its members, donated 1,000,000 HUF to this department. The impressive amount was handed over to the hospital staff in November last year, in the form of a huge cheque. The Chamber will support the Toxicology Department again this year with an amount of 250,000 HUF. In addition to the amount that the Chamber donates this year, we are also counting on YOUR support to be able to provide the Department of Toxicology with a substantial financial amount, even exceeding last year’s 1,000,000 HUF in order to provide the children with better care. For any questions you might have, please do not hesitate to contact the Chamber’s office or Lóránt Kibédi Varga at +36/1/456-6200 Habitat for Humanity House Building Day
With a small, but enthusiastic group of volunteers we departed for Szarvas on the 28th of September 2006 to help building homes for people in need. After a bus ride of two and a half hours and a powerful breakfast we arrived in Szarvas where we were welcomed by staff of Habitat for Humanity and members of the families who will live in the houses currently under construction. After a safety briefing and some coffee the hard work started. The wooden frame of the houses had already been set up and it was the task of the NHCC and its members and partners to prepare the roof structure. We were lucky with the weather as we enjoyed sunshine all day, most of us managed to get a suntan whilst working hard by hammering pieces of wood into the frame of the roof. After enjoying a tasty ‘pörkölt’ lunch we continued working until late afternoon and then went back by bus to Budapest. Habitat for Humanity staff and the families were very kind, enthusiastic and helpful. This was a great experience where we could combine helping those people who are in desperate need of housing with building real team work. We would like to thank all those involved for a very nice and useful event!
Corporate Social Responsibility Seminar
Although maybe not a topic directly associated with Chamber activities, the NHCC organized a Corporate Social Responsibility Seminar on the 9th of March 2006. The theme of the seminar was to point out that there can be a long-lasting and mutual beneficiary relationship between a foundation and a corporation, and that building in the support of a non-profit organization into the marketing and PR strategy of a company can lead to profit. There were well over 50 participants at the seminar and feedback was positive.

NHCC donates 1 million HUF to Heim Pál Children’s Hospital
The NHCC together with its members supported the Heim Pál Children’s Hospital by donating funds to buy life-saving equipment. The press release that was drawn up after the event has been published in several newspapers and the internet. The Netherlands-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce donated one million HUF to the Department of Toxicology of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital From left to right: Dr. György Harmat, Dr. Klára Láng, Lóránt Kibédi Varga On 14th November 2005 the Netherlands-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce made a donation of one million HUF to the Heim Pál Children’s Hospital Development Foundation. The contribution is aimed to help Hungary’s only children’s toxicology centre through the foundation of the hospital. The symbolic cheque of the sum was presented to dr. György Harmat, director of the hospital, and dr. Klára Láng, head of the Department of Toxicology by Lóránt Kibédi Varga, managing director of CB Richard Ellis international real estate agency, member of the Chamber’s board.
Dr. Klára Láng, head of the department curing children suffering from deliberate or accidental poisoning aged 0-16, warmly acknowledged the financial help of the Chamber. According to her, the contribution would cover the expenses of a new, computer coordinated 24-hour blood pressure gauge, an electronic baby scale, monitor accessories, and a lung vibrator. As Dr. György Harmat, director of Heim Pál Children’s Hospital added, after the organisational merge with the Madarász Children’s Hospital on 1st January 2006, the institute of 550 hospital beds will have a great importance even at Central and Eastern European standards. Besides expanding of the intensive care unit, they plan the establishment of a new emergency ward. However, these projects (along with the renovation of the old buildings and the construction of new ones for the one hundred-year-old hospital) can only be financed with the help of donations similar to this one. The contributors to the one-million-HUF donation collected by the Netherlands-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce were CB Richard Ellis Ltd., Corstjens Worldwide Movers Group, Ferro Electronics Ltd., ING Bank Rt., ProfiPower, Rynart Group of Companies, and Sara Lee Hungary Coffee and Tea.
